Cameron Park

Cameron Park is a 416-acre urban park located in Waco, Texas. Dedicated on May 27, 1910, the park was named in memory of William Cameron, a Waco philanthropist and lumber baron. The park is situated at the confluence of the Brazos and Bosque Rivers, offering visitors scenic views and diverse natural landscapes.

The park features over 20 miles of nationally recognized trails that wind through lush vegetation, towering cliffs, and along the riverbanks. These trails cater to hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians of various skill levels. The park's terrain includes limestone bluffs that provide stunning overlooks of the rivers and surrounding area.

Cameron Park is home to a variety of flora and fauna, with dense forests of live oaks and cedar trees creating a haven for local wildlife. The park's diverse ecosystems include riverside areas, woodlands, and open grasslands, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers.

Throughout its history, Cameron Park has undergone several expansions and improvements. The Cameron family continued to support the park's growth with additional land donations in 1917 and 1920. During the Great Depression, federal workers affiliated with New Deal programs constructed trails, water drains, and retaining walls to enhance the park's infrastructure.

The park serves as a recreational hub for Waco residents and visitors alike. It offers numerous amenities and activities, from picnic areas and playgrounds to more adventurous pursuits like rock climbing and disc golf. The park is also home to the Cameron Park Zoo, which occupies 52 acres within the larger park area.

Cameron Park's central location near downtown Waco makes it easily accessible to the public. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight, allowing visitors ample opportunity to enjoy its natural beauty and recreational offerings throughout the year.
