About Lucy Park in Wichita Falls
Lucy Park is a 176-acre regional park located in the center of Wichita Falls, Texas. The park sits within a bend of the Wichita River, providing a natural setting with mature pecan trees, cottonwoods, and other native and introduced tree species.
A focal point of Lucy Park is the man-made waterfall, constructed in 1987 to replace the city's original falls that were destroyed by flooding in the 1800s. The 54-foot cascade can be viewed from the park or from I-44 as it crosses the Wichita River. A paved 1.7 mile trail circles the park, forming part of the city's larger Circle Trail system.
The park features a large pond that serves as habitat for waterfowl, with ducks and geese present year-round. Visitors may also spot other wildlife like turtles in and around the pond. Lucy Park provides ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, picnicking, and nature appreciation in the heart of Wichita Falls.
River Bend Nature Center occupies 15 acres within Lucy Park, offering additional nature exhibits and educational programs. The park's natural setting, recreational facilities, and central location make it a popular destination for both residents and visitors to Wichita Falls.
