Forest Park

Forest Park is the largest park in Everett, Washington, spanning 197 acres. Established in 1894 with an initial purchase of 10 acres, the park has grown significantly over the years. It is located in North Everett and features a mix of wooded areas, open spaces, and recreational facilities.

The park's history is rich and varied. In the early 20th century, it was home to a zoo that operated from 1914 to 1976. During the 1930s, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) significantly transformed the park, creating many of its enduring features including rock walls, an extensive trail system, and terraced hillsides.

Forest Park offers a diverse range of activities for visitors. It features several miles of wooded trails suitable for hiking and nature walks. The park includes both easy and challenging trails, allowing visitors of different fitness levels to enjoy the natural surroundings. A self-guided nature tour is available for those interested in learning more about the local flora and fauna.

For families and children, the park provides multiple playgrounds, including the Rotary Centennial Water Playground which operates seasonally. The park also houses an indoor swimming pool, known as the Forest Park Swim Center, which is open year-round.

Community gatherings and events are frequently held at Forest Park. The historic Floral Hall, built in 1940 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, serves as a venue for various community events and exhibitions.

Forest Park continues to evolve, with ongoing maintenance and improvement projects. Recent efforts have included removing invasive species and planting new trees to maintain the park's forest ecosystem.
