About Alki Beach Park in Seattle
Alki Beach Park is a 135.9-acre park located in the West Seattle neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. The park consists of a long beach strip that runs approximately 2.5 miles along Elliott Bay, from Alki Point to Duwamish Head.
The beach offers spectacular views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and the Seattle skyline across the water. It was the site of the first landing of Seattle's founding settlers in 1851, and today serves as a popular recreational destination for locals and visitors alike.
The park features a wide, paved path that runs parallel to the beach, used by joggers, cyclists, rollerbladers and pedestrians. The sandy beach itself is suitable for sunbathing and beach activities, though the water is quite cold year-round. Several volleyball courts are set up along the beach during summer months.
At the south end of the park near Alki Point is a bathhouse with restrooms and an art studio. There is also a monument commemorating the arrival of Seattle's first white settlers in 1851. At the north end, visitors can see remnants of pilings from the former Luna Park amusement park that once stood there in the early 1900s.
Alki Beach Park offers opportunities for various outdoor activities and is a prime spot for watching ferries, sailboats, and other watercraft traversing Puget Sound. The park is open daily from early morning until late evening, with exact hours varying seasonally.
