About Centennial Park in Seattle

Centennial Park is an 11-acre waterfront park located along Elliott Bay in Seattle, Washington. Formerly known as Elliott Bay Park, it was rededicated in 2011 to commemorate the Port of Seattle's 100th anniversary. The park seamlessly connects to Myrtle Edwards Park to the south, creating an extended waterfront green space.

The park features 4,100 linear feet of shoreline, offering visitors scenic views of Elliott Bay, Mount Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains. A paved trail runs through the park, serving as part of the larger Elliott Bay Trail system, which is popular among walkers, joggers, and cyclists. The trail is divided to separate pedestrians from bike traffic for safety.

One of the park's notable features is its rose garden, which provides a colorful display during blooming seasons and offers photo opportunities with the Space Needle visible in the background. The park also includes grassy areas suitable for picnicking and relaxation.

Centennial Park is home to a public fishing pier, though as of recent reports, the pier has been closed indefinitely due to safety concerns. When operational, the pier was a popular spot for fishing enthusiasts and included a tackle shop where visitors could rent equipment and purchase licenses.

The park's location near the Pier 86 Grain Terminal provides an interesting juxtaposition of industrial and recreational spaces, allowing visitors to observe port operations while enjoying the natural setting. Occasional seal and sea lion sightings in Elliott Bay add to the park's appeal for wildlife enthusiasts.

Open from dawn to dusk, Centennial Park offers a unique blend of urban and natural environments, making it a valued recreational space for Seattle residents and visitors alike.
