About Pratt Park in Seattle

Pratt Park is a public recreational space located in Seattle's Central District neighborhood. The park spans 5.6 acres and was first purchased by the city in 1958 as part of the grounds for Washington Junior High School. In 1966, it became the site for a park and low-income housing project. The park was officially named after Edwin T. Pratt in 1976, honoring the community leader who was a founder of the Central Area Motivation Program and the Seattle Opportunities Industrialization Center.

The park features a variety of amenities catering to different age groups and interests. One of its main attractions is the recently renovated spraypark, which reopened on May 28, 2022, providing a refreshing space for children to play during warmer months. The park also includes a playground with modern equipment, offering climbing platforms, bridges, and slides suitable for older children.

For sports enthusiasts, Pratt Park provides covered basketball courts, allowing for year-round play regardless of Seattle's often rainy weather. The park's layout includes open grassy areas ideal for picnics, casual games, or relaxation. Several picnic tables and benches are scattered throughout the park, some offering views of the Olympic Mountains.

Pratt Park serves as an important community gathering space in the Central District. It hosts various events and has been a site for art installations and musical performances. The park's design and amenities make it a versatile space for both active recreation and passive enjoyment, catering to the diverse needs of the neighborhood residents.
