About Lawton Park in Seattle

Lawton Park is a public green space located in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. The park offers visitors a peaceful retreat with views of Ballard and the Ship Canal. Its wide pathway meanders through hills, wooded areas, and grassy lawns, providing an ideal setting for leisurely strolls and outdoor recreation.

Acquired by the City of Seattle in 1952, Lawton Park was named after the nearby Fort Lawton Army Base. The base itself was named in honor of Major General Henry Ware Lawton, known for his capture of Chief Geronimo in 1886.

The park features gravel paths that provide neighborhood access to the park, local schools, and transportation routes. These paths integrate the park seamlessly into the surrounding community, making it a convenient destination for residents and visitors alike.

Lawton Park's location adjacent to Discovery Park, Seattle's largest public park, enhances its appeal. While smaller in scale, Lawton Park complements the expansive natural areas of its larger neighbor, offering a more intimate outdoor experience within the urban environment.
