About Westcrest Park in Seattle

Westcrest Park is a large public green space located in the southwestern corner of Seattle, Washington. Spanning 81.1 acres, it is Seattle's seventh largest park, offering a diverse range of natural features and recreational facilities. The park is situated atop "Boeing Hill," west of Boeing Field, providing visitors with panoramic views of downtown Seattle, Mount Baker, and the Cascade Mountains on clear days.

The park's landscape is characterized by a mix of open meadows and forested areas. Its wooded sections contain a variety of tree species, including Douglas fir, red cedar, maples, and madrone, some of which are quite large. A network of intersecting trails weaves through the forest, allowing visitors to explore the park's natural beauty and observe local wildlife.

Westcrest Park underwent significant improvements in 2013 as part of a project to cover the West Seattle Reservoir, which added 20 acres of green space to the park. This renovation, funded by the 2008 Parks and Green Space Levy, included the development of new amenities and the enhancement of existing features.

The park caters to a wide range of recreational activities and community needs. It features a large off-leash dog area, spanning approximately 8.4 acres, which includes separate sections for small and shy dogs. The dog park is well-maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers and offers amenities such as a doggie drinking fountain, shade, and open spaces for pets to run and play.

For families and children, Westcrest Park provides a playground area with modern equipment, including two zip lines and hillside slides. The park also boasts a flexible great lawn, ideal for various activities and events. Additionally, there is a community garden P-Patch where local residents can grow their own produce and flowers.

Westcrest Park's location in the diverse Highland Park neighborhood contributes to its multicultural atmosphere, with the community garden plots often reflecting foods from various cultures around the world.
