About Puget Park in Tacoma

Puget Creek Natural Area is a 66-acre urban green space located in the north end of Tacoma, Washington. The natural area is centered around Puget Creek, one of only three potential salmon-bearing streams within the city limits of Tacoma.

The park features a steep ravine with winding trails that follow the course of Puget Creek as it flows northward to Commencement Bay, part of Puget Sound. The natural area provides a habitat for various wildlife species and supports a riparian forest that helps maintain low-water flow in the creek during summer months.

Established in 1985, Puget Creek Natural Area has been the focus of ongoing restoration efforts by community volunteers and organizations such as the Puget Creek Restoration Society. These efforts aim to improve fish access, enhance vegetative cover, and reestablish regular runs of coho and chum salmon, as well as sea-run coastal cutthroat trout.

The park offers visitors a peaceful escape from urban life, with the sound of flowing water creating a serene atmosphere. While the natural area provides an opportunity to experience nature within the city, some visitors have reported issues with litter and strong odors in certain areas.
