About Marshall Park in Vancouver
Marshall Park is a 14-acre community park located in Vancouver's Central Park neighborhood. Situated at 1015 E McLoughlin Blvd, the park is nestled behind the Marshall Community Center and near I-5 and Clark College. The park is open daily from 5 AM to 10 PM, providing ample time for visitors to enjoy its facilities.
The centerpiece of Marshall Park is the Chelsea Anderson Memorial Play Station (CHAMPS), a fully inclusive playground designed by Harper's Playground. This playground, which opened in September 2023, replaced the original structure built in 1999 to honor Chelsea Anderson, daughter of Vancouver Fire Services Capt. Curt Anderson. The new design maintains the firefighter theme of the original playground while incorporating modern, accessible features.
CHAMPS at Marshall Park includes a variety of play areas designed to meet the social, emotional, and physical needs of people of all ages and abilities. The playground features Washington's first wheelchair swing, a community spinner that can accommodate two wheelchairs, and an elevated sand area. It also boasts the largest "Harper's Hill" ever built, complete with seating at the top and 360-degree views.
The park preserves elements of its history, including the original Chelsea Anderson brick memorial and an updated donor wall recognizing generations of contributors. The redesigned playground incorporates interactive art pieces made from a real fire truck and water pump, as well as upcycled fire hydrants that hold plaques with descriptions of the play areas in both English and Braille.
Beyond the playground, Marshall Park offers sports fields and is home to Vancouver Parks and Recreation sports programs, summer camps, and senior activities. The park also features the largest community garden in Vancouver, providing a space for local residents to cultivate plants and vegetables.
