About Bagley Park in Vancouver
Bagley Community Park is a 15.3-acre community park located in the Bagley Downs Neighborhood of central Vancouver, Washington. The park serves as an important recreational space for residents of central Vancouver, including the Bagley Downs, Fourth Plain Village, Meadow Homes, and Maplewood neighborhood associations.
The park is situated on relatively flat terrain, with a steeper section along the north edge fronting Nicholson Road. In the northwest corner of the park, there are wetlands associated with the headwaters of Headache Creek, adding to the park's natural features.
Bagley Community Park borders several educational facilities, including Vancouver Public School's Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School, Jim Parsley Community Center, and the Bates Center for Educational Leadership. This proximity to schools makes it a convenient location for students and families.
Historically, Bagley Park has been a hub for Vancouver's recreational youth and adult sports leagues. The park continues to serve this purpose with its multiple sports facilities, catering to various outdoor activities and organized sports events.
In August 2024, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission approved a new master plan for Bagley Community Park. This plan envisions a colorful and lively park that reflects the diversity and vibrancy of cultures represented within the Fourth Plain corridor. The redesign aims to create a space where people of all ages can enjoy recreational activities and feel a sense of belonging.
The new design features a wide promenade through the center of the park, intended to serve as a stage for public life. This promenade will offer spaces for strolling, sitting, playing, and hosting group festivities. Along this central walkway, visitors will find areas dedicated to picnicking, play, exercise, and relaxation. The plan also emphasizes water features, which are expected to come to life in interesting ways during the rainy season.
A key element of the new design is a destination play area, designed to provide children of all ages with a space for wonder and exploration. This addition aims to enhance the park's appeal to families and younger visitors.
