About Wilder Park in Green Bay
Wilder Park is a community park located on the east side of Green Bay, Wisconsin. The park lies within the curve of Robinson Avenue and partially surrounds Wilder School. It was officially named in 1977 after Laura Ingalls Wilder, the author of "Little House on the Prairie," who was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
The land for Wilder Park was first proposed for acquisition in 1972 as a long-range park and school site. The purchase was finalized in 1974 using matching LAWCON funds. Initial development of the park began in 1977 due to rapid growth in the surrounding area. Facilities were progressively installed over several years, with a shelter completed in time for the 1981 ice skating season.
Wilder Park features broad sidewalks that provide ample space for walking, jogging, and biking. The park includes picnic areas, playgrounds, and open green spaces for various recreational activities. In 2007, the Wilder Neighborhood Association was given permission to place a memorial in the park for Arnie Wolff, a Green Bay firefighter who died in the line of duty.
The park serves as a central gathering place for the Wilder Park neighborhood, offering residents a convenient location for outdoor activities and community events. Its proximity to Wilder School makes it an ideal spot for families and children to enjoy outdoor recreation.
