Red Mountain Park is a 1,500-acre urban park located in Birmingham, Alabama. The park encompasses a 4.5-mile-long section of Red Mountain, a prominent ridge that runs through the city. This expansive green space offers visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and industrial history.
The park's landscape is characterized by forested areas and former mining sites, reflecting Birmingham's past as an iron ore mining hub. Visitors can explore 16 miles of multi-use trails that wind through the wooded terrain, suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and walking. These trails vary in difficulty, accommodating both casual strollers and more adventurous hikers.
Red Mountain Park preserves several historical mining sites, including mines No. 10, 13, and 14.
