About Little Dipper Park in Anchorage
Little Dipper Park is a neighborhood park located in Anchorage, Alaska. Established in 1979, this park was purchased to add more parkland to the community and is named after the street where it is situated. The park covers an area between the size of a basketball court and a football field, providing a modest recreational space for local residents.
One of the notable features of Little Dipper Park is its marsh overlook, offering visitors a glimpse of the natural wetlands in the area. The park underwent significant improvements following community feedback in 2008 when it initially received a poor grade in a neighborhood park report card.
Over the years, Little Dipper Park has seen various enhancements. In 2010, it received a $45,700 legislative grant as part of a Neighborhood Park Fix-it project. Further improvements were made in 2011, including the replacement of damaged parts on play equipment, relocation of a dangerous pathway, and installation of new amenities such as an entrance sign, kiosk, and trash cans.
The park now features a mix of recreational facilities suitable for different age groups. It includes playground equipment for both preschool-aged (2-5 years) and school-aged (5-12 years) children. The playground surfacing was upgraded from sand to engineered wood fiber to enhance safety and accessibility.
Little Dipper Park serves as a local gathering spot for the community, offering opportunities for play, relaxation, and enjoying nature. Its improvements over the years reflect the ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance public spaces in Anchorage for the benefit of residents.
