About Standish Park in Anchorage

Standish Park is a small neighborhood park located in Northeast Anchorage, Alaska. Situated at the corner of Standish Street and East 5th Avenue, this park serves as an important playground for the local community.

The property for Standish Park was donated in 1972, and it was initially developed with play equipment in 1982 using a legislative grant. In 1995, the play equipment was replaced to keep the park up-to-date.

In 2008, Standish Park received a low grade on its Report Card, indicating the need for improvements. In response, during "Standish Park Week" in May 2009, volunteers from Caribbean cruise lines participated in a neighborhood park "Clean and Green" event. They removed graffiti, weeded, improved visibility, added a new trash can, and made safety improvements.

Throughout that week, Parks and Recreation Department staff and volunteers also contributed by removing broken fences, installing new park signs and a dog station, replacing a spring toy in the play area, and replenishing pea gravel in the play area. These efforts resulted in an improved grade of C on the park's Report Card in 2011.

As of 2015, there were plans to further upgrade the park, including improvements to the playground and safety surfacing, removal of graffiti, landscaping enhancements, and the addition of new play equipment and amenities.
