About Barrios Unidos Park in Phoenix
Barrios Unidos Park is a 14-acre public green space located near Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Arizona. The park serves as a vital community hub in one of the city's hottest neighborhoods, offering residents a place for recreation and relaxation.
The park features an amphitheater that hosts small performances and community events. In 2020, a mural project was approved to be installed on the concrete platform of the amphitheater, depicting an indigenous sun stone calendar to promote cultural awareness of Indigenous peoples.
In 2024, Project EverGreen and ScottsMiracle-Gro partnered with the City of Phoenix to renovate Barrios Unidos Park as part of an initiative to mitigate the urban heat island effect and reduce temperatures in the area. The renovation included planting 49 oak and elm trees, ranging from 8 to 12 feet tall, to provide additional shade for park visitors.
The park is open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., allowing residents to enjoy its facilities throughout the day. It includes various recreational facilities to cater to different interests and age groups.
