About David G. Herrera and Ramon Quiroz Park in Tucson
David G. Herrera and Ramon Quiroz Park, located on W. St. Mary's Road in Tucson, Arizona, is one of the oldest parks in Tucson's park system. The city acquired this 6.6-acre property in 1902, making it a longstanding fixture in the community.
Originally named Oury Park after William S. Oury, a prominent Tucson resident from 1856 to 1887, it was one of the first parks in Tucson to feature both a community center and a pool. In 2001, the park was renamed to honor two former Oury Center recreation coordinators, David Herrera and Ramon Quiroz, who significantly impacted the lives of youth in the Barrio Anita Neighborhood.
The park serves as a neighborhood recreational space, offering a variety of facilities for sports and leisure activities. It includes softball fields with lighting, providing opportunities for evening games and practices. The park also features basketball and volleyball courts, catering to diverse sporting interests.
For families and children, David G. Herrera and Ramon Quiroz Park includes a playground area. Additionally, the park houses a swimming pool and a wading pool, offering relief from Tucson's warm climate.
The park's amenities extend to community gatherings, with a recreation center on-site and ramadas available for picnics and events. These facilities make the park a focal point for neighborhood activities and social interactions.
Open from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., the park provides ample time for visitors to enjoy its facilities throughout the day.
