About Underwood Park in Fayetteville
Underwood Park is a new community park located in west Fayetteville, Arkansas. The park was made possible through a generous land donation by Craig and Laura Underwood in 2019. Initially, 38 acres were donated, with plans to expand the park to approximately 65 acres through future donations and leases.
The park is situated on the site of the former Razorback golf course, west of Dean Solomon Road. It fills a critical gap in access to community park space for the west side of Fayetteville and connects via Clabber Creek Trail to Gary Hampton Softball Complex, Holcomb Elementary, and an adjacent nature preserve at Wilson Springs.
Underwood Park features two small ponds on the northern part of the property and offers unimproved walking trails utilizing former golf cart paths. The park is designed to provide both passive and active recreation opportunities for visitors. Its proximity to the Wilson Springs preserve and the Clabber Creek Corridor creates an "emerald necklace" of natural areas and green space.
The park's master plan was adopted by the Parks Board on January 3, 2024. The first phase of development is anticipated to include improvements around the entry drive and parking areas north of the creek. Construction of the project will be funded by the 2019 bond, with work expected to begin in 2025 and end in 2026.
Visitors should note that the park is open from sunrise to sunset. Pets must be on a leash, and smoking, alcohol, and firearms are not permitted. Overnight camping is also not allowed. The park entrance is located on the northeast side via a white entry gate off Deane Solomon Road.
