About Gregory Park in Fayetteville
Gregory Park is a 19-acre wooded parcel located in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Situated off College Avenue (U.S. Highway 71B) on Sycamore Street, the park offers a blend of natural beauty and recreational facilities in the heart of the city. Originally donated by the United States Veterans Affairs in 1964, it was initially called Veterans Park until 1978 when it was renamed in honor of James K. Gregory, a pioneer businessman who played a significant role in establishing the Drake Field Airport.
The park features a 0.9-mile perimeter natural-surface trail that winds through its heavily wooded landscape, providing opportunities for walking, running, and biking. In 2018, with assistance from Ozark Off-Road Cyclists, the park expanded its offerings to include extensive biking facilities. These additions have transformed Gregory Park into a hub for cycling enthusiasts of all skill levels.
Gregory Park serves as more than just a recreational space; it's also an educational venue. The park is utilized as a practice course for regional school teams participating in the National Interscholastic Cycling Association mountain-biking program for student athletes. This dual purpose enhances its value to the community, combining leisure activities with athletic training.
The park's central location in Fayetteville's midtown area makes it easily accessible to residents and visitors alike. Its mix of wooded areas and modern amenities creates a unique urban oasis, offering a quick escape into nature without leaving the city limits.
