Union Park

Union Park is a 10-acre green space located at the intersection of 36th and Potter streets in Little Rock, Arkansas. The park has a rich history dating back to 1925, when it was purchased by the Colored Sunday School Union to provide recreational space for the African American community at a time when there were no public recreational facilities for Black citizens in the area.

In 1935, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Company 3777 built a large recreational building on the site, featuring log and native stone construction similar to state park lodges of the era. While this structure was later damaged by fire, remnants of its foundation remain today.

The park fell into disrepair for a period but was revitalized after being acquired by the City of Little Rock in 1967. It was initially renamed West End Park before reclaiming its original name of Union Park in 2008 to honor its historical roots.

Today, Union Park serves as a neighborhood gathering place, offering recreational amenities and green space for local residents. Its facilities have been updated over the years while still preserving elements of its history, such as the original stone foundation and fireplace from the 1935 CCC structure.
