Johnny Carson Park

Johnny Carson Park is a 17-acre regional park located in Burbank, California. The park was dedicated in April 1992 by the Burbank City Council to honor Johnny Carson, the iconic host of NBC's Tonight Show, for "30 years of keeping America up late and laughing".

Originally named Buena Vista Park due to its proximity to the street of the same name, the site was purchased in 1942 as part of an effort to beautify the L.A. River area. Over the years, portions of the land were sold to St. Joseph Hospital and NBC, and the construction of the Ventura Freeway further impacted the acreage.

The park underwent a significant revitalization project, which included the restoration of the Little Tujunga Wash Creek. The existing concrete channel was replaced with native riparian plants, creating a natural stream bed that provides food, water, and shelter for local wildlife. This restoration effort not only improved the park's aesthetics but also contributed to better water quality and groundwater recharge in the area.

Johnny Carson Park offers visitors a serene environment with lush green lawns, shaded areas, and mature trees. The park features winding pathways for walking and jogging, providing an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. It serves as a popular destination for both locals and tourists, offering ample space for picnics, relaxation, and enjoying nature's beauty.

The park hosts various community events throughout the year, adding to its vibrant atmosphere and sense of community. It also includes a playground area, known as the Tonight Show Playground, which was partially funded by a donation from Jay Leno through the Jay Leno Foundation in 1993.
