About Los Altos Park in Long Beach

Los Altos Park is a 4.6-acre public park in Long Beach, California, near Stearns Street. The park offers a pleasant environment for residents and visitors, featuring a variety of recreational facilities and green spaces. Originally developed as a passive park with lawn, trees, and benches, Los Altos Park has evolved over the years to include more amenities for community use.

The park's history dates back to January 30, 1951, when it was deeded to the City of Long Beach by the Home Investment Company and the Bixby Land Company. On December 21, 1954, the City Council approved a development plan for the park. Since then, various improvements have been made to enhance its features and accessibility.

In 1995, security lighting was added to the park, improving safety for visitors. A significant addition came in 1998 when a playground was installed, funded by the Los Angeles County Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond Acts of 1992 and 1996. Around the year 2000, the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department staff further expanded the park's offerings by adding a "T-ball" baseball field.

Los Altos Park provides a quiet retreat within the urban environment of Long Beach. Its 4.7 acres of scenery and greenery offer a space for relaxation and outdoor activities. The park has recently received upgrades, including two new backstops, two new drinking fountains, and new play equipment, further improving its facilities for community use.
