About Los Altos Plaza Park in Long Beach

Los Altos Plaza Park is a small community park located in Long Beach, California. Situated in the Los Altos neighborhood, this park serves as a local recreational space for residents. The park covers an area of approximately 0.71 acres, providing a compact yet functional green space within the urban environment.

The park features a combination of passive and active recreational areas. It includes open lawn spaces where visitors can relax or engage in casual activities. The park's layout incorporates trees and benches, offering shaded areas for comfort and rest.

In 1995, security lighting was added to the park to enhance safety for visitors during evening hours. A significant addition came in 1998 when a playground was installed, funded by the Los Angeles County Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond Acts of 1992 and 1996. This playground provides a dedicated area for children to play and exercise.

Around the year 2000, the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department staff further enhanced the park's offerings by adding a "T-ball" baseball field. This addition expanded the recreational opportunities available to local residents, particularly for youth sports activities.

The park's development history dates back to 1951 when it was deeded to the City of Long Beach by joint owners, the Home Investment Company and the Bixby Land Company. The City Council approved a development plan for the park on December 21, 1954, initiating its transformation into a public recreational space.
