About Long Beach Greenbelt in Long Beach
The Long Beach Greenbelt, also known as the Pacific Electric Right of Way, is a narrow strip of land that runs diagonally through Long Beach, California. This 9.28-acre linear park was developed on the former Pacific Electric Railway route, transforming an abandoned rail corridor into accessible green space for the community.
The Greenbelt features walking and riding trails that wind through the park, offering residents and visitors a peaceful path for exercise and recreation. The area is landscaped with native plants, contributing to the local ecosystem and providing a natural backdrop for outdoor activities.
Development of the Greenbelt occurred in phases, with some sections completed as early as winter 2003-2004. The project included the creation of Rotary Park within the Greenbelt area. While portions of the former railway land have been developed for housing and other uses, the Greenbelt preserves a significant stretch as public open space.
The park serves as a green corridor through urban Long Beach, connecting different neighborhoods and providing a natural respite from the surrounding city environment. It offers residents an opportunity to enjoy nature, exercise, and community gatherings in a linear park setting.
