About Rose Park in Long Beach
Rose Park is a small historic park located in Long Beach, California at the intersection of 8th Street and Orizaba Avenue. The circular park was donated to the city by the Alamitos Land Company in 1910, making it one of Long Beach's oldest parks.
The park features four paths that lead to a planted central area. Visitors can relax on benches placed under shade trees to enjoy the scenery. In 1955, the park was redesigned with four walks leading under arched rose trellises to a circular rose garden at the center.
After falling into disrepair in the late 1960s and early 1970s, local residents worked to restore the park in the mid-1970s. Further renovations occurred in 2008-2009, including the addition of a new gazebo, cement work, entry trellises, benches, and thematic climbing roses.
The park serves as the namesake and centerpiece for the surrounding Rose Park historic neighborhood, which contains over 500 buildings primarily consisting of Craftsman bungalows built between 1910-1922. The Rose Park area is known for its eclectic older homes and local businesses, situated just a few blocks from the Pacific Ocean.
