About Lincoln Park in Long Beach
Lincoln Park is the oldest park in Long Beach, California, established in 1880. Located in downtown Long Beach at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Pacific Avenue, the park has undergone several transformations over its long history. After closing in 2016 for construction of a new civic center, Lincoln Park reopened in February 2022 as part of a $19.5 million renovation project.
The newly redesigned 4-acre park serves as the final component of Long Beach's new Civic Center complex, which includes City Hall, Port of Long Beach headquarters, and the Billie Jean King Main Library. Lincoln Park aims to be an inclusive urban green space that caters to diverse community needs and activities.
One of the park's most distinctive features is a 13-foot-tall bronze penny sculpture, which has become a popular spot for photos. The park also retains its historic Abraham Lincoln statue, which was first installed in 1915 when the park was renamed from Pacific Park to Lincoln Park.
Lincoln Park offers a variety of recreational amenities for visitors of all ages. It incorporates universally accessible design elements to ensure the park is welcoming and usable for people of all abilities. The park is open daily from dawn until 10:00 PM, providing ample opportunity for community members and visitors to enjoy its facilities.
Community input played a significant role in shaping the park's new design and planned programming. The City of Long Beach continues to seek feedback from residents on desired events and activities for the park, aiming to make it a vibrant community gathering space in the heart of downtown.
