Los Angeles State Historic Park

Los Angeles State Historic Park is a 32-acre open space located in the heart of Los Angeles, California. Situated adjacent to Chinatown and offering views of downtown Los Angeles, the park provides a unique blend of urban and natural environments. Opened to the public in 2017, it serves as both a recreational space and a site of historical significance.

The park's location was once home to Southern Pacific Transportation Company's River Station, which operated from 1876 to 1901. This area is considered the "Ellis Island of Los Angeles," where many new arrivals to the city first disembarked. The site's history as a rail yard gave rise to its nickname "The Cornfield," due to corn that would leak from train cars and sprout along the tracks.

Los Angeles State Historic Park offers visitors a variety of activities and features. Pathways wind through the park, allowing for walking, jogging, and cycling. The open green spaces are suitable for picnicking, kite flying, and observing urban wildlife, particularly birds traveling along the Pacific Flyway. The park's design incorporates elements that hint at its industrial past, with architectural features and landscaping that pay homage to the area's railroad history.
