About César E. Chavez Neighborhood Park in Modesto
César E. Chávez Park, located on Sierra Drive in Modesto, California, is a public recreational space that serves the local community. The park is currently undergoing significant renovations as part of a State of California Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program project.
The renovation project, which began in 2020, aims to substantially increase recreational opportunities for residents of the local community and beyond. The park is currently closed to the public due to ongoing construction, with an anticipated reopening date in Summer 2026.
Once completed, the renovated César E. Chávez Park will feature a range of new facilities and improvements. These include the construction of a new aquatic center with a pool and splash pad, a skate plaza, and a basketball court, all of which will be equipped with lighting. The park will also boast a new picnic pavilion, soccer field, and approximately 4,250 linear feet of new walking paths with three outdoor fitness stations.
Additional enhancements include a new event stage area, restroom facilities, park perimeter fencing, bioswales, and groundwater recharge basins. The existing Maddux Youth Center within the park will be renovated to include two new multipurpose rooms for exercise classes. The park's landscaping and irrigation systems will be renovated throughout, and the César E. Chávez monument will be relocated.
The $8.5 million renovation project reflects a commitment to creating inclusive and modern recreational spaces that cater to diverse community needs.
