San Antonio Park

San Antonio Park is a public park located in Oakland, California. Situated on a gently sloping hillside, the park occupies an area that was once part of Rancho San Antonio during the Mexican era of California. Originally known as Independence Square in the early development of Oakland, it was renamed San Antonio Park sometime after 1912.

The park has played a significant role in the history of the Chicano Movement. In 1970, it was the site of a notable Chicano Moratorium rally against the Vietnam War. Today, San Antonio Park continues to serve as a community space where cultures intersect and people of all ages come together.

Spanning 11.0 acres, San Antonio Park offers a variety of recreational facilities and natural spaces. The park features both sports amenities and areas for leisure activities. It includes a turf soccer field, which is popular among local teams and often draws spectators who watch from the hillside above. The Sarunas Marciulius basketball court is another well-used feature of the park.

San Antonio Park also houses a community garden, providing local residents with an opportunity to grow their own produce. The park's walking paths are frequented by seniors and other community members seeking a peaceful outdoor experience. Additionally, the park includes picnic areas, making it a favored spot for family gatherings and community events.
