About La Moine Park in Richmond
La Moine Park, also known as Cheese Park to locals, is an 18-acre public park located in a quiet hillside neighborhood of Richmond, California, near El Sobrante. The park features two distinct play areas catering to different age groups. The upper section contains play structures designed for preschool-aged children, including a fire truck toddler structure, rock climbing elements, slides, and swings.
The lower section of the park is home to its most distinctive feature - a large concrete play structure shaped like Swiss cheese, complete with whimsical mice paintings. This unique "cheese" structure includes a wide concrete slide and climbing opportunities, making it more suitable for older and more adventurous children. However, the concrete surfaces can be slippery, and caution is advised when using the slide.
Between the two play areas lies a large, well-maintained grassy field, providing ample space for various activities. The park also offers picnic facilities with several tables and BBQ grills under shaded areas. While the play areas themselves have limited shade, many trees throughout the park provide cooler spots for relaxation.
La Moine Park's layout and features make it a versatile space for families with children of different ages. The peaceful neighborhood setting and expansive grounds offer visitors a chance to enjoy outdoor activities in a relatively quiet environment. However, it's worth noting that the park does not have public restroom facilities, which may be inconvenient for some visitors planning extended stays.
