About Lucretia Edwards Park in Richmond
Lucretia Edwards Shoreline Park is a 2-acre public space located at the end of Marina Way South in Richmond, California. The park is named in honor of Lucretia W. Edwards, a local community activist and champion of open spaces. It serves as a tribute to the wartime contributions made by the Bay Area shipyards during World War II.
The park is situated along the southern shoreline of Richmond, offering visitors scenic views of the San Francisco Bay. It forms part of the Bay Trail, a recreational corridor that links a series of parks and open spaces around the bay. The park's location provides excellent opportunities for bird watching, particularly in the nearby tidal wetlands and Stege Marsh.
Lucretia Edwards Shoreline Park is a key component of the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park. It features exhibits that highlight various locations of historical significance related to the World War II home front effort. The park's proximity to the Rosie the Riveter Visitor Education Center (just a short walk away) makes it an integral part of the area's historical tourism.
The park was designed to offer both recreational opportunities and historical education. Its layout includes open spaces for relaxation and enjoyment of the bay views, as well as interpretive elements that inform visitors about the area's role in World War II history.
