About Don Derr Park in Riverside
Don Derr Park is a 24-acre public park located in Riverside, California. Established in 1971, the park was named after Don Derr, a conservation leader in Riverside who believed that building parks would help conserve more land.
The park features a variety of sports facilities, including two large soccer fields measuring 340 feet and 300 feet in length, as well as four smaller 200-foot soccer fields. These fields are equipped with painted lines and stadium lights for nighttime use. Additionally, the park houses a baseball field with shaded bleachers, though it lacks an outfield fence and electronic scoreboard.
For basketball enthusiasts, Don Derr Park offers a full court and a half court, totaling three hoops. The courts have painted lines including free-throw, three-point, and midcourt markings.
The park also caters to families and children with two playgrounds. The larger playground, suitable for older children, features various equipment including slides, a fireman pole, ladders, a rock climbing wall, and a zip line structure. A smaller playground is available for younger children. The park also includes traditional swings and bucket swings for toddlers.
Walking enthusiasts can enjoy the park's trails, which include a 1,500-foot asphalt trail that turns into a dirt path, as well as additional trails and sidewalks totaling 0.85 miles.
Visitors to Don Derr Park can make use of the picnic tables scattered throughout the area, particularly near the parking lot and playgrounds. The park provides clean restroom facilities, which is a notable feature.
For parking, there is a lot off Monroe Street on the western side of the park, offering about 150 spaces. Additional street parking is available on Monroe Street and in nearby neighborhoods.
It's worth noting that the park is sometimes referred to as Monroe Park, though both names refer to the same location. The park is open from 7 AM to 9 PM and allows dogs.
