Closter Park is a 7-acre public park located in Salinas, California. The park serves as a recreational hub for the local community. The park features multiple sports facilities, including two baseball fields and four basketball courts. One of the baseball fields is equipped with an electronic scoreboard and has an outfield fence 200 feet from home plate.
The park includes two playgrounds catering to different age groups. The larger playground offers various equipment such as slides, monkey bars, and swings, while the smaller playground is designed for younger children. The playground surfaces are made of wood chips and mulch.
Closter Park also provides spaces for community gatherings and events. It features a plaza area, a gazebo, and open green spaces. The park includes a commemorative Tree of Life, planted on February 8, 2008, which serves as a symbol for grieving and healing against violence.
In 2022, the City of Salinas received a grant of $6,845,563 to renovate and improve Closter Park. The planned improvements include the construction of a fitness loop with exercise stations and lighting, a batting cage area, a large themed playground, a street skate plaza, picnic areas with community-made art, an amphitheater-style seating area, a farmers market/event space, two restrooms, and enhanced landscaping throughout the park.
The park is open daily from 5 AM to 8 PM, offering residents a space for various recreational activities and community events. Closter Park serves as an important green space in the urban environment of Salinas, providing opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and community engagement.
