Ward Canyon Park is a neighborhood park located in Normal Heights, San Diego, California. The park spans 6.9 acres and offers a variety of recreational facilities for visitors. Situated near the intersection of Adams Avenue and 39th Street, the park is adjacent to Interstate 15.
The park officially opened on March 29, 2003, as part of an agreement between Caltrans and the City of San Diego during the construction of I-15. Initially named "39th Street" park, it was officially renamed Ward Canyon Neighborhood Park on March 28, 2008, following community input and approval by Toni Atkins.
Ward Canyon Park features a mix of natural and developed areas, including large grassy areas, walking trails, and various sports facilities. The park's landscape includes shade trees and flower beds, creating a pleasant environment for visitors. A concrete path encircles the park's perimeter, providing a convenient route for walkers and joggers.
One of the park's notable features is its off-leash dog area, which is divided into separate fenced sections for large and small dogs. This area has a tumbled wood chip surface and provides ample space for pets to play and exercise.
