About Cancer Survivor's Park in San Diego

Cancer Survivors Park at Spanish Landing in San Diego, California, is a thoughtfully designed space located along the waterfront of San Diego Bay. The park is situated at the east end of Spanish Landing Park, which is divided into two parts: Spanish Landing Park West and Spanish Landing Park East.

The Cancer Survivors Park is part of a network of similar parks funded by the Bloch Foundation, designed to provide support and inspiration for those affected by cancer. The park features a series of elements aimed at offering hope, courage, and determination to cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones.

One of the key features of the park is the positive mental attitude walk, which includes 14 bronze plaques. These plaques are divided into four inspirational and ten instructional messages, providing guidance and encouragement to visitors. Additionally, the park showcases a sculpture comprising eight life-size bronze figures passing through a maze, symbolizing the journey of cancer treatment. The figures before the maze display emotions of fear, hope, and determination, while those after the maze appear happy, representing successful treatment.

The "Road to Recovery" is another significant element of the park, consisting of seven plaques that explain what cancer is and outline basic actions for overcoming the disease. This educational component aims to inform visitors and reduce fear surrounding cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Set against the backdrop of San Diego Bay, the Cancer Survivors Park offers a serene environment for reflection, meditation, and healing. Its location within the larger Spanish Landing Park area allows visitors to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty and waterfront views while engaging with the park's meaningful installations.
