About Sellers-Keever Park in San Diego
Sellers-Keever Park is a memorial park located in Imperial Beach, San Diego County, California. The park was established to honor Jonathan Sellers and Charlie Keever, two young boys who were tragically murdered in 1993. Situated along the Bayshore Bikeway, the park serves as both a tribute to the victims and an educational outdoor activity center for the community.
The park features a 35-yard outdoor education area designed with a beach theme. Its centerpiece is a Lithocrete shell that transitions from dark to medium to light blue, created by T.B. Penick & Sons. Within this shell is a LithoMosaic piece that incorporates photos of the boys, glow-in-the-dark tiles, and sea glass, which is poetically referred to as "tears of the ocean."
Surrounding the shell is a Sedimentary wall that provides seating for visitors to appreciate the artwork and enjoy views of the water. The park's design was a collaborative effort involving the San Diego County Parks and Recreation team, the mothers of the two boys, and artist Amanda Conahan.
Officially named the Jonathan Sellers and Charlie Keever Outdoor Education Activity Center, the park aims to not only memorialize the boys but also to give back to the community by providing a space for children to learn and engage with nature.
