About San Diego Bayfront Park in San Diego
San Diego Bayfront Park, also known as Waterfront Park, is a 12-acre public space located in downtown San Diego, California. Situated along the city's picturesque waterfront, the park offers visitors sweeping views of San Diego Bay, Coronado Island, and the Coronado Bay Bridge.
Opened in May 2014, the park transformed former parking lots surrounding the County Administration Center into a vibrant green space. The centerpiece of the park is an interactive splash fountain featuring 31 jets that shoot water 14 feet into the air, creating a shallow splash area for visitors to enjoy. This 830-foot-long water feature stretches from the landmark County building into the park.
Waterfront Park serves as a popular destination for both locals and tourists. It provides ample grassy areas for picnicking, relaxation, and various outdoor activities. The park's design incorporates lush gardens, offering a mix of drought-tolerant plants and landscaped spaces.
For families with children, the park includes a large playground with modern equipment. The play area features swings, slides, and other interactive elements designed to engage young visitors.
The park hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including concerts, festivals, and outdoor movie screenings. It has become a focal point for community gatherings and public celebrations in San Diego.
In 2024, the park expanded its offerings with a new active recreation area. This addition includes pickleball courts, a basketball court, a table tennis area, a five-station fitness apparatus, and a fenced space for off-leash dogs.
