About Gallagher Square in San Diego
Gallagher Square, formerly known as Park at the Park, is a 2.8-acre outdoor space located outside the outfield fence of Petco Park in San Diego, California. This multi-purpose area serves as both a public park during stadium off-hours and an extension of the ballpark during San Diego Padres games and events.
The square underwent a significant $20 million renovation in 2024 to commemorate Petco Park's 20th anniversary. This transformation aimed to enhance the space for both baseball fans and the local community. Gallagher Square features a grassy area where visitors can watch Padres games on a large video board, offering a unique and affordable game-viewing experience.
During non-game days, Gallagher Square functions as a public park, providing a green space for residents and visitors in the heart of downtown San Diego. The area has been reconfigured to allow portions of the park to remain open for public use more frequently, making it a valuable community asset.
The square also serves as a venue for concerts and events, featuring the Sycuan Stage, which can accommodate up to 6,000 people. This versatility allows Gallagher Square to host a variety of entertainment options beyond baseball, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the East Village neighborhood.
