About Metcalf Motorcycle County Park in San Jose
Metcalf Motorcycle County Park is a 457-acre off-highway vehicle (OHV) park located at 300 Metcalf Road in San Jose, California. The park offers approximately 20 miles of marked and rated trails for motorcycles and ATVs, situated in the grass-covered hills of southeast Santa Clara Valley.
The park caters to riders of various skill levels, with trails and tracks designed for advanced, intermediate, and beginner motorcyclists and ATV riders. All trails in the park are one-way, and their difficulty levels are clearly indicated on carsonite posts throughout the facility.
In addition to the trail system, Metcalf Motorcycle County Park features several specialized riding areas. These include a motocross competition track, a mini-motocross track for smaller motorcycles, a beginner's oval, and dedicated hill climb areas. The park also offers three trials obstacle courses for more technical riding.
For safety and educational purposes, the park hosts a Junior OHV Ranger Program in spring and fall. This program, geared towards children aged 9-12 who own motorcycles, provides instruction on basic riding skills, safety equipment usage, rider etiquette, and trail conservation.
Metcalf Motorcycle County Park is open to the public Thursday through Monday, including all holidays that do not fall on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Operating hours vary seasonally to accommodate daylight hours. The park may close on short notice due to inclement weather, so visitors are advised to check with the park office before traveling.
As part of its commitment to environmental stewardship, the park implements a Habitat Management Plan and Soil Conservation Plan. These initiatives help maintain the balance between recreational use and preservation of the natural surroundings.
