About Ramac Park in San Jose
Ramac Park is a neighborhood park located in the southern part of San Jose, California, at the intersection of Charlotte Drive and Lexington Avenue. This 10.64-acre park serves as a local green space amid suburban neighborhoods and shopping centers, providing residents with a variety of recreational opportunities.
The park's name "RAMAC" honors the site's history as part of an IBM campus where the world's first hard disk drive (IBM 305 RAMAC) was developed in the 1950s. Remnants of that era remain in the form of a few tile murals in the park, including one design that symbolizes computer punch cards, offering a unique tech heritage that sets Ramac Park apart from other local parks.
Ramac Park is open daily from sunrise until one hour after sunset, allowing ample time for outdoor activities. The park features a mix of sports facilities and recreational areas, catering to various interests and age groups. It provides a serene environment for walkers and runners, with well-maintained paths and essential amenities to support outdoor exercise.
The park's layout includes both active and passive recreation areas. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the lighted softball field, artificial turf soccer field (which requires a permit for use), half-court basketball, and a single tennis court. For younger visitors, there are two children's playgrounds equipped with swings, slides, and climbing structures, providing entertainment for kids of different age groups.
