About Red-Tailed Hawk Park in Aurora
Red-tailed Hawk Park is a 35-acre community park located at 23701 E. Hinsdale Way in southeast Aurora, Colorado. The park, which opened in 2019, features an inclusive playground designed to accommodate children of all abilities.
The centerpiece of the park is an 8,000 square foot inclusive playground, inspired by a local child. This playground is designed with equipment, instruments, and experiences that every child can enjoy, regardless of their physical capabilities or limitations. The playground includes unique elements such as a wheelchair-accessible swing, a merry-go-round with room for sitting, standing, and wheelchairs, and ziplines.
In addition to the inclusive playground, Red-tailed Hawk Park offers a variety of other recreational amenities. The park includes a sprayground (splash pad) that operates seasonally from late May to early September, providing a refreshing spot for children during hot summer days.
The park also features more traditional playground equipment in a separate area, including play structures for both toddlers and older children. This area includes elements such as a climbing wall, monkey bar circles, and a wavy bridge.
Red-tailed Hawk Park is not just about playgrounds. It offers open fields for various activities, a wetland boardwalk, and picnic areas. The park aims to provide recreation opportunities for all, with facilities for activities such as bocce ball, volleyball, and horseshoes.
As of 2025, the Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department has been engaged in a master planning process to review the park's features and create an updated, cohesive design for future improvements. This process has involved public meetings and surveys to gather community input on the park's development.
