About Centennial Center Park in Centennial
Centennial Center Park is an 11-acre public park located in Centennial, Colorado, adjacent to the Centennial Civic Center. The park opened in 2012 and was designed to provide year-round enjoyment for families and visitors of all ages.
The park's design incorporates educational and historical elements throughout. The main plaza features a timeline of the Cherry Creek Basin's history, including interesting facts and a map of the Cherry Creek Watershed. An interactive "Colorado Statehood Walk" displays information about Colorado, while a "Viewfinder Walk" takes visitors on a trivia quest highlighting points of interest both inside and outside the park.
A centerpiece of Centennial Center Park is its expansive playground areas. There are separate play zones designed for different age groups, including equipment for children ages 2-5 and 5-12. The playground features climbing walls, a treehouse-style structure, tunnels, slides, and jungle gyms. A large rope climbing structure and obstacle course provide additional challenges for older children.
During warm months, the park's Nautilus-shaped splash pad offers a popular water play area. Open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the splash pad provides a fun way for visitors to cool off. The park also includes nature areas dubbed the "butte" and "meadow," allowing visitors to explore more natural landscapes.
For community events and performances, Centennial Center Park houses an outdoor amphitheater with a covered stage. This venue can accommodate up to 5,000 people for concerts, movies, and other gatherings. The park also offers reservable spaces for private events, including a large shelter with a gas fireplace and a smaller "coffee shelter" for more intimate gatherings.
Centennial Center Park emphasizes accessibility, with poured-in-place rubber surfacing in parts of the playground to accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. The park's design incorporates sustainable elements, including the use of locally-sourced materials in its construction.
