About Acacia Park in Colorado Springs
Acacia Park is a historic 3.7-acre urban park located in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado. Established in 1871, it holds the distinction of being the city's first park, donated by General William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs.
The park serves as a central gathering place for the community, offering a blend of recreational facilities and open green spaces. It features a bandshell built in 1914, which hosts free summer concerts and various community events. The park's layout includes lush shade trees, lawns, and paved walkways, providing a pleasant environment for visitors to relax and enjoy outdoor activities.
One of the park's notable attractions is Uncle Wilber Fountain, a popular spot for children to cool off during summer months. In 2022, the park underwent renovations, including the addition of a new playground with an artistic Ninja Warrior-like climbing structure, a tot lot with colorful rubberized features, a slide, and a spinner.
During winter months, Acacia Park transforms to include a seasonal outdoor ice skating rink, typically operational from November to January. This addition enhances the park's year-round appeal and provides a unique recreational opportunity for visitors during colder months.
The park also houses a Visitor Hub, which operates seasonally to provide information to tourists and locals alike. Acacia Park's central location makes it easily accessible and a focal point for various downtown activities and events throughout the year.
