About Sculpture Park in Denver
Sculpture Park is a unique outdoor venue located within the Denver Performing Arts Complex in Denver, Colorado. Spanning two acres, this urban park is situated at the edge of the Arts Complex along Speer Boulevard, between Champa and Arapahoe streets. The park is renowned for its iconic "Dancers" sculpture, a striking 60-foot high artwork created by Jonathan Borofsky in 2003. This steel and fiberglass sculpture, depicting two colossal white figures in motion, serves as a landmark visible to those traveling along Speer Boulevard.
The park's central location makes it a focal point for various cultural and community events. It regularly hosts large outdoor festivals, concerts, private receptions, and high-profile events, including the Shakespeare Festival and the American Heart Association's Heart Walk. The space is designed to accommodate up to 7,000 people, making it suitable for sizable gatherings.
Sculpture Park is not just an event space but also a public area where visitors can enjoy art and nature. The park offers views of Denver's Convention Center and serves as the "front door" to the second largest performing arts complex in America. Its open grassy areas provide space for relaxation and informal activities, while the sculptural elements add an artistic dimension to the urban landscape.
While the park is named for its sculptural features, it's important to note that contrary to what the name might suggest, the "Dancers" sculpture is currently the primary permanent art installation in the park. This has led some visitors to comment on the slight misnomer, as they expect to see multiple sculptures throughout the space.
