Wooster Square

Wooster Square Park is a historic urban park located in the Wooster Square neighborhood of New Haven, Connecticut. The park occupies a full city block, bordered by Chapel Street, Academy Street, Greene Street, and Wooster Place.

Named after Revolutionary War hero General David Wooster, the park dates back to the early 19th century when it was established as part of New Haven's city planning. The square is surrounded by well-preserved 19th-century homes, showcasing architectural styles ranging from Federal to Victorian.

One of the park's most notable features is its collection of Yoshino cherry trees, planted in 1973 by the New Haven Historic Commission in collaboration with the New Haven Parks Department and local residents. These trees burst into beautiful pink blossoms each spring, typically in April, attracting visitors from across the region. The annual Cherry Blossom Festival, organized by the Historic Wooster Square Association, has become a significant community event.

Throughout the year, Wooster Square Park serves as a gathering place for local residents and visitors. It hosts various community events, including concerts and a seasonal farmers market. The park provides a peaceful green space in the heart of the neighborhood, offering a respite from the surrounding urban environment.
