East Potomac Park

East Potomac Park is a 328-acre recreational area located on a man-made island in southwest Washington, D.C. The park sits between the Washington Channel and the Potomac River, with the Tidal Basin at its northern end. Created in the late 19th century through land reclamation efforts by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, East Potomac Park was established as a public park by an Act of Congress in 1897.

The park is known for its scenic views of the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, and other landmarks of the nation's capital. A loop road called Ohio Drive encircles the park, providing access to various recreational facilities and picnic areas. The park is particularly popular during cherry blossom season in the spring, when over 1,600 cherry trees lining Ohio Drive burst into bloom.

East Potomac Park offers a variety of recreational opportunities for visitors. The park features three golf courses - an 18-hole course and two 9-hole courses - as well as a driving range. Tennis enthusiasts can enjoy both indoor and outdoor courts at the East Potomac Tennis Center. A public outdoor swimming pool is available during summer months.

The park also caters to other outdoor activities. A paved trail along the perimeter is frequented by joggers, cyclists, and inline skaters. Several athletic fields accommodate sports like baseball, softball, soccer, and rugby. Fishing is permitted along the seawall, and picnic areas scattered throughout the park provide spaces for relaxation and gatherings.
