About Kurt Donaldson Community Park in Cape Coral
Kurt Donaldson Community Park, formerly known as Hancock Park, is a 17-acre public recreation area located in Cape Coral, Florida. The park was renamed in 2014 to honor Kurt Donaldson, a long-time resident who served the community for over 40 years as a Little League coach and football coach.
The park offers a variety of sporting facilities catering to different age groups and interests. It features multiple baseball fields, providing ample space for local leagues and casual games. Additionally, the park includes tennis courts, which may occasionally be reserved by the Lee County Tennis Association for programs, instruction, or special events.
For basketball enthusiasts, the park has outdoor courts available on a first-come, first-served basis. A playground area, added in 2006, includes separate structures designed for children aged 2-5 and 5-12 years old, ensuring age-appropriate play equipment for younger visitors.
Kurt Donaldson Community Park also provides amenities for passive recreation and gatherings. Visitors can enjoy picnic areas with charcoal grills, making it an ideal spot for family outings or community events. The park operates from dawn to dusk, allowing residents to make use of its facilities throughout the day.
It's important to note that while the park is a community asset, it does have some restrictions. Pets and alcohol are not permitted within the park boundaries, and the use of waterslides and wading pools is prohibited. All pavilions in the park are available on a first-come, first-served basis, encouraging fair use among visitors.
