About Long Key Natural Area in Davie
Long Key Natural Area & Nature Center is a protected area located in Davie, Florida. Established in 2008, this 157-acre park is managed by Broward County Parks and Recreation. The park's diverse ecology includes an elevated oak hammock, providing visitors with a glimpse into the natural landscape of South Florida.
The area has a rich history, having been inhabited by ancient Tequesta and Seminole Native Americans. Archaeological evidence suggests human settlement in the area dating back 3,000 years. In more recent times, the land has served various purposes, including as a citrus grove, dairy farm, and even as the site of an Old West theme park called Pioneer City.
Long Key Natural Area & Nature Center offers visitors a range of recreational and educational opportunities. The park features nature trails and equestrian paths, allowing guests to explore the diverse flora and fauna of the area. A 2,760 square foot Visitor's Center houses educational exhibits, including a scale model of the site and displays highlighting the history of the native peoples who once inhabited the land.

Additionally, the Everglades Theater shows a 12-minute video titled "Long Key: An Island in the Everglades," offering further insights into the park's significance.
The park also serves as a venue for special events, with the Oak Hammock Hall available for rentals. This 2,390 square foot facility is suitable for meetings, weddings, receptions, and other gatherings.
