Palm Point Park

Palm Point Park is a 17-acre nature park located on Lakeshore Drive in Gainesville, Florida. The park extends as a peninsula into Newnans Lake, offering visitors scenic views of the water and surrounding natural landscape.

The park's unique geographic location makes it a popular spot for birdwatching, particularly during migration seasons. Its position attracts both local and migratory bird populations, with over 230 species recorded at the site. Visitors may observe various waterbirds year-round, as well as songbirds during migration periods. Some notable species that have been spotted include Prothonotary Warblers, Blue-winged Warblers, Yellow-throated Warblers, Scarlet Tanagers, Painted Buntings, and Blue Grosbeaks.

Palm Point Park also provides opportunities for wildlife viewing beyond birds. The lakefront location allows visitors to spot alligators in their natural habitat. Additionally, the park's native wildflowers attract numerous butterfly species, including Zebra Swallowtails.

For fishing enthusiasts, Palm Point Park offers some of the best bank fishing in the Gainesville area. The park's shoreline provides access to Newnans Lake, where anglers can try their luck from the banks.

The park features a short trail that leads to the point of the peninsula, allowing visitors to take in panoramic views of Newnans Lake. While the trail is relatively brief, it provides a peaceful walk through the natural Florida landscape.
