About Ed Austin Regional Park in Jacksonville
Ed Austin Regional Park is a 144-acre public space located in the Arlington area of Jacksonville, Florida. The park, formerly known as District II Regional Park, was renamed in May 2005 to honor former Jacksonville Mayor Ed Austin. The City of Jacksonville purchased this site in 1994, which was previously the Dunes Golf course.
The park features a diverse range of recreational facilities catering to various interests and age groups. One of its main attractions is the city's top disc golf course, known as the "Fore Palms Disc Golf Club." This 18-hole layout includes both open and tree-lined fairways, designed to challenge players of all skill levels. The course hosts tournaments and weekly events for advanced players, while also providing opportunities for beginners to learn from experienced disc golfers.
Ed Austin Regional Park boasts an extensive network of walking and biking trails, including a 1.75-mile paved path that is mostly shaded, offering visitors a pleasant environment for exercise and leisure. The park's terrain includes some hilly areas, which are remnants of ancient sand dunes, providing a unique topographical feature in the otherwise flat landscape of Jacksonville.
For sports enthusiasts, the park offers lighted baseball fields, soccer fields, and basketball courts. A skate park attracts skateboarders of various skill levels. The park also includes a large, fenced playground area for children, making it a popular destination for families.
Dog owners can take advantage of the park's dog area, which is divided into separate sections for small and large dogs. This wooded, off-leash area allows pets to run and play freely.
